Natural Headache Remedies

The most common form of headache is tension headache. This occurs when pain and pressure from the neck and up is experienced.
There are different kinds of headache: there are migraines, cluster, organic, rebound, hormone and tension headaches. It is difficult to pinpoint the main causes of tension headache; but based on studies, it is usually caused by either quick change in weather, stress, fatigue, eye strain, hunger, anxiety, depression, sinus, head or neck injury, bruxism (teeth grinding), arthritis, medication side effects. It is sometimes accompanied with nausea. This type of headache we usually treat with an OTC (over the counter) medicine like aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen. Sometimes diphenhydramine (found in Benadryl) is added to help the patient fall asleep if sleep is hindered.
To stay away from any OTC drug or prescription medication here are some natural and effective remedies:
Wear a magnet necklace; this can be purchased at drug and retail stores or on the internet for about $30 depending on the length and design.
Try acupressure or acupuncture by going to a professional or simply applying pressure with your finger tips at the area where there is pain.
Certain essential oils when rubbed on the temples can also give comfort. Try peppermint, lavender, or rosemary, just a drop is enough.
Take a warm shower or bath and a good quality nap.
For nausea, consume ginger or any fresh citrus fruit.
But before self medicating and self diagnosing please make sure there is not anything more serious or any complications that could be the real cause of the headache, or you may be misdiagnosing yourself. It’s always good to consult a professional or a doctor first.
